Lately, I’ve been on a personal quest to uncover my roots — learning about my grandparents and great-grandparents, piecing together the details of their lives. My research has led me to ship manifests from the 1920s, tracing my grandfather’s journey from his birth in Italy to his immigration to the United States.
Every discovery feels like opening a door to the past. The most magical detail I’ve found so far? My great-grandmother’s maiden name was Candeliere — Italian for candlestick. I couldn’t imagine a more serendipitous connection to my work with Wax Crescent.
Olive oil was a staple in my home growing up. There was always a big tin in the pantry, and its earthy, rich scent would fill the air in my grandmother’s kitchen. I remember one winter when my dad braved a snowstorm just to buy more olive oil — not because we needed to cook, but simply because we were almost out.
